1. A fiberglass aquaculture tanks, most aquaculturalists will tell you that a round type of this tank is best if you have the space. That said, we know plenty of aquaponic gardeners growing in rectangular and square tanks that do just fine. Just make sure any fiberglass hatchery tank you consider does NOT have hollow pockets in the bottom or any other place where solid waste can accumulate.

2. In general, bigger fiberglass aquaculture tanks tend to be more stable, and it is best to shoot for at least 90- 100 gallons if you are growing edible fish to plate size.

3. You should stock your frp fish farming tank at our recommended “Rule of Thumb” of 1 pound of fish for every 5 – 10 gallons of water. An “average” amount of fish consumed per year according to the FAO is 37 pounds. A 200 gallon tank will produce about that each year.

4. You will want to have at least a 1:1 ratio of 12″ deep grow bed volume to fish tank volume. Much less than this will not provide adequate filtration for your fish. You can go all the way to a 3:1 grow bed : fish tank volume, but be sure to add a sump tank or two at that point so the water level in your fiberglass fish tank does not go too low during the flood cycle.

Fish can be grown in fiberglass tanks of nearly every shape and size

Fiberglass Fish tanks typically are rectangular, circular, or oval in shape. Circular or oval tanks with central drains are somewhat easier to clean and circulate water through than rectangular ones.

Rectangular fish tanks are usually built with or set upon inclined floors to facilitate cleaning and circulation.

Rearing fish tanks range in size from 500 to 500,000 gallons capacity. The size of the tank depends on a variety of factors including: stocking rates, species selected, water supply,water quality, and economic considerations.

The behaviour of fiberglass pultrusion profile exposed to fire:

Fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) materials are being increasingly used in civil engineering applications due to their several advantages when compared to traditional materials, namely, the lightness, strength, good insulation properties, low maintenance and durability.

At the same time, new design issues and challenges are inevitably encountered, among which are the legitimate concerns regarding their performance when exposed to fire, especially in building applications.

Construction materials used in buildings are required to have adequate fire reaction behaviour, avoiding fire ignition, flame spreading and excessive smoke production and spreading. Additionally, structural elements are also expected to present sufficient fire resistance, in order to prevent structural collapse under fire.

However, when FRP materials are exposed to high temperatures (300–500 C), the organic matrix decomposes, releasing heat, smoke, soot and toxic volatiles. Also when heated to moderate temperatures (100–200 C), FRP materials often, creep and distort, and such degradation of the mechanical properties often leads to buckling failure mechanisms of load-bearing composite structures .

In spite of such unfavourable properties, FRP materials present other attributes that are advantageous in a fire situation. In contrast with other traditional materials, such as steel, composites are very good heat insulators, and this feature is important for slowing the spread of fire from room to room. Also when compared to steel, composites present better burn-through resistance,providing an effective barrier against flame, heat, smoke and toxic fumes.

Furthermore, several measures can be applied to improve  the fire performance of FRP materials.In contrast to the fire reaction behaviour e.g., and the post-fire behaviour, for which numerous investigations have been carried out and a good level of understanding was already achieved, few studies were conducted on the fire resistance properties of FRP materials, especially regarding the structural behaviour of moderately-sized elements under load.
On the compressive strength of  FRP pultruded profiles channel elements at elevated temperatures showed noticeable strength reductions already at 60 C and 90 C, with compressive strengths at those temperatures being 63% and 31%, respectively, of the ambient temperature strength.

The detail specification of FRP Pultruded Grating consist of four parts: Introduction,Characteristics,Installation and Maintenance.
1.Introduction of FRP Pultruded Grating

FRP Pultruded Grating has most of the characteristics of molded FRP grating, but it also has some obvious different points. The most important one is high fiberglass content in load-carrying direction (65%-70%).So, compared with molded FRP grating, pultruded grating has obvious advantages on large stride distance. Because it can reduce the number of foundation support, reducing the cost. Excellent phthalate & isophthalic resin and surface veil mat is adopted, which make it possesses good corrosion property. 

2.Characteristics of FRP Pultruded Grating
  • Light weight: Its weight is one quarter of steel gratings; easy for carrying, which reduce the carrying cost.
  • Good mechanical property: Resin content is 35%; fiberglass content is 65%, which increase the rate between strength and weight.
  • Aging resistance: UV absorption agent and polyester surface veil mat are added in the formula, which can protect from ultraviolet rays.
  • Effective: The fire retardant effect is of 1 to 25, or oxygen index is above 26. Oxygen index can reach above 26. (per the requirement of project)
  • Others: Impact resistance, free from maintenance, easy for processing, slide resistance, electric and thermal insulation.
3.Installation of FRP Pultruded Grating
1. Installation on FRP platform:

1) The width of support on steel beams of grating shall be at least 40mm, the gap between gratings shall be 6mm. The gap between grating and concrete column is 10mm.

2) The gap between grating and supporting steel beam shall be fixed by M or L shaped clamp. At least 4 clamps need to be used for one piece of grating. Two adjacent edges of useless gratings shall be connected by C shaped clamp. At least one clamp shall be used in the center of every 1.8m.

2. Installation in FRP handrail channels:

1) Adjust the size of channel refer to the size of each unit as possible as you can, which make the edge of grating after cutting to be the sealing face, ensure the integrity of units, and beautiful appearance.

2) 40mm support shall be added to the gratings on the concrete foundation; the gap between grating and concrete is 3-6mm.

3. Installation on FRP stairs:

1) The step of grating shall be in the step frame; the frame can be normal steel or FRP.

2) Gap between step and frame is 3-6mm; 4 fixing clamps are used for each step; 1 for one corner.

3) The types of the clamps supplied by our company are: M, L, and C. different type clamp has different functions: M type is used for the fixing connection between grating and supporting structure; L type is used for special limited connection between grating and supporting structure; C structure is used for connection between edge and edge of gratings. Corresponding bolts and gaskets are needed the connection.

4.Maintenance of FRP Pultruded Grating

1. Washing liquid can be used to clean the dust and dirties on the surface, no need of other maintenance measures.

2. Avoid direct connection with naked fire and high temperature, such as electric welding.

3. Avoid the drag and impact damage from any steel, steel sharp tools, and the painting pollution

Trying to decide new material to use for the structural development project, fiberglass may be the better choice.

There are a number of structural material to consider when engineering and designing a new structure, and Fiberglass Reinforced Polymers could be the right choice. These materials have outstanding properties that are better suited for a variety of environments.

FRP, or Fiberglass Reinforced Polymers, certainly aren’t new to the marketplace.

FRP’s have been around for many years, but it has taken some time for them to become universally accepted around the world, by Engineers, architects, and developers. FRP’s, for commercial use, have been extensively researched since the 1930’s, however, Engineers, architects, and developers, being unfamiliar with the material and uncertain as to which grade of FRP is the correct one, sometimes overlook FRP as a structural material.

  •  What is fiberglass composite?

    Fibreglass, also called glass reinforced plastic (GRP) or fibre reinforced plastic (FRP), is a fibre reinforced polymer made of a plastic matrix (resin) reinforced by fine fibres of glass.
    Fibreglass composites are lightweight and extremely strong. Although strength properties are somewhat lower than carbon fibre and are less stiff, the material is typically far less brittle, and the raw materials are much less expensive.
    Its strength and weight properties are also very favourable when compared to metals.
  •  What type of resin are used to make fiberglass composite?

    There are 3 basic types of resin; Polyester, Vinyl Ester and Epoxy.
    Polyester resins provide good strength at relatively low cost. These resins can provide a wide variety of properties relating to water and chemical resistance, weathering and shrinkage during curing.
    Vinyl Ester resins are primarily used where improved water and chemical resistance, heat resistance or where improved flexibility is required. They have high resistance to acids, alkalis and solvents.
    Epoxy resins have a different structure to polyester or vinyl ester resins and are usually sold as a 2 pack system. Epoxy resins do not shrink as much as polyester or vinyl ester resins when they cure. Epoxy resins provide particularly good mechanical strength and adhesion, and have good stiffness, toughness, heat and water resistance.

  •  What is pultrusion?

    Pultrusion is a continuous low pressured moulding process using fibre reinforcements and thermosetting resin matrixes. The fibreglass reinforcements are drawn through a resin bath or injected with resin in which all fibres are thoroughly impregnated with the liquid resin system. The wetted out fibre is formed to the desired geometric shape and pulled into a heated steel die. Once inside the die, the resin cure is initiated by controlling at precise elevated temperatures. The composite laminate solidifies in the exact cavity shape of the die, as it is continuously “pulled” by the pultrusion machine, thus the name “Pultrusion”.
  •  Can any shape be pultruded?

    Almost any constant cross section can be pultruded.
    However, as with most continuous moulding processes, major changes in wall thickness over a relatively small area and sharp corners need to be reviewed during the design stage to ensure a viable frp pultruded profile for production.
  •  What are the most typical reinforcements used in the pultrusion?

    Typical reinforcements used are fibreglass roving, continuous fibre mat, woven and stitched fabrics. Other reinforcing materials such as carbon and aramid fibres, which are more costly, can be utilised during the pultrusion process to increase the modulus / stiffness of the composite member.
  •  Do pultruded profile need to painted?

    For most applications, resin pigments, surface veils and UV stabiliser additives eliminate the need for secondary painting applications.
    However, to improve the weathering properties or the appearance of a frp pultruded profile during outdoor exposure, it is highly recommended to paint the profile with a good quality acrylic or urethane paint system.
  •  What is the service life of pultruded profile?

    In general terms, pultruded products have been reported to be still in use after 25 plus years of active service in the field. As with any product, the service life is dependent on the application and how it is installed.
  •  What the price about pultruded product?

    Fibreglass pultrusions are normally less than the cost of stainless steel products, slightly more expensive than aluminium products and more expensive compared to carbon steel products.
    However, total installed cost of fibreglass pultrusion assemblies is generally more than price competitive compared to stainless steel and aluminium assemblies.
    When the whole-of-life cost is taken into consideration, fibreglass pultrusion assemblies are even competitive against the carbon steel versions.
