The One Piece of Furniture I Could Live Without
As a frequent redecorator and homeowner, I often find myself questioning the necessity of various pieces of furniture. Lately, my focus has been on one particular piece that I simply do not want to keep in my home: the bedside table.
The Unnecessary Side Table
I must admit, I have strong personal opinions on this subject. My old bedside table, while functional, was starting to show its age and wasn't quite to my taste. After some deliberation, I decided it was time to replace it with a more appealing option, ultimately choosing a new and modern sofa. It's a personal opinion that I believe is widely shared among those who value comfort and style over superfluous furniture.
The Coffee Table Replacement
Like many, I have had my fair share of bumps and bruises from coffee tables. Rather than enjoying the convenience of a sturdy end table for my coffee cup, I have found myself repeatedly tripping over the coffee table's projecting surface. Thus, I have opted for a more practical alternative. Instead of a coffee table, I use an ottoman, which not only adds a touch of elegance to the room but also provides an extra seat when needed. It's a versatile piece that serves multiple purposes.
Living Without a Dining Room Table
For those of us who might have space constraints, a dining room table might seem like a nice addition, but it's certainly not a necessity for me. As an old bachelorette, the dining room table has often felt like an unwelcome intruder. I only use it for entertaining, and even then, it's used far less often than I had anticipated. In fact, I have practically ignored it besides special events. However, my cat Mackie, my constant companion, has a different view. He considers the dining room table a key part of our home decor, and he's quite insistent that we keep it.
Mackie: "Tables are good." He believes that the table is not just a piece of furniture, but a resort for his playtime. This is a strong argument, and while I still don't use the table much, our cat's opinion certainly adds a unique perspective to the necessity of this piece of furniture.
Dining Room Set or Bicycle Parking?
The final piece of furniture I'm considering dispensing with, or at least repurposing, is the dining room set. In my opinion, the space would be much better utilized for parking bicycles. Putting that space to use creatively seems like a more efficient use of the area. Imagine transforming the dining room into a cozy parking spot for your bicycles, allowing you to keep them protected and clutter-free. It's a unique idea that deserves some serious consideration.
In conclusion, while there are many pieces of furniture that add to the beauty and functionality of a home, there are some that might not serve as many practical purposes as we think. By reassessing our needs and considering the perspectives of those who might have different uses for the space, we can find more efficient ways to use our homes. Whether it's substituting a coffee table for an ottoman, replacing an unused dining room table with a cat's play surface, or converting a dining room set into a bicycle parking area, there's always the potential for a more functional and comfortable living space.
